Grand Prix & Ladies Grand Prix Scoring System
After all the tournaments have been played in a calendar year, the AEBBA will invite the top 16 players based on performances throughout the year in those tournaments to play in the prestigious Grand Prix. In addition the top 8 ladies will be invited to play in the Ladies Grand Prix.
How the scoring system works.
Any open individual event contributes points towards the final points tally for each player. For example in 2010 these tournaments were –
Oxon Open Portsmouth Open Guernsey Open Surrey Open Sussex Open Kent Classic Bucks Open Berks Open World Championship Singles
The points are awarded as follows
The World Championship awards points at a higher premium as follows
In addition the ladies only events will also contribute points as follows
The finals positions of the players will be decided on the following criteria
a) Total Grand Prix Points b) Total Events that points have been scored in c) Total Matches Won in all events d) Total Events played in.
In the event of a tie a play off will be arranged only if it is for the final place. Otherwise a coin toss will determine the final positions
For ladies to qualify they must have scored at least one point in open event as well as be in the top 16 overall
The Grand Prix
The Grand Prix will be the last event that takes place in the calendar year (usually a week before the All England AGM The top 16 players will be invited and if any are unable to attend the players on the list from 17th onwards will be invited one by one until we have a full field of 16.
The 16 players are seeded as per the points list and the are split into groups of 4 in the following way
The groups will be round robin and positions decided as per the usual AEBBA rules for deciding positions of group based tournaments. The winners of each group will progress to the semi finals where –
Winner of Group 1 v Winner of Group 4 Winner of Group 2 v Winner of Group 3
The following dress code will apply
All players should wear smart shirt, bow tie and waistcoat, black trousers and black shoes. Ladies may wear blouse and skirt.
The Ladies Grand Prix
The Ladies Grand Prix take place on the same day as the Open Grand Prix The top 8 lady players will be invited and if any are unable to attend the players on the list from 9th onwards will be invited one by one until we have a full field of 8.
The scoring system is the same as above, but to qualify a lady does not have to have score at least 1 point in an open event
The 8 players ,are seeded as per the points list and the are split into groups of 4 in the following way
The groups will be round robin and positions decided as per the usual AEBBA rules for deciding positions of group based tournaments. The winners of each group will progress to the final where –
Winner of Group 1 v Winner of Group 2
The following dress code above applies and also the following
If you a lady has qualified for both the Open Grand Prix as well as the Ladies Grand Prix they must advise as to which tournament they wish to enter as they cannot play in both.
