England retained the trophy they won in Jersey last year with an emphatic 8 – 3 victory at the Renaissance Hotel Gatwick on Saturday night February 7th.

 

            The first two games saw England off to a slow start, Paul Wing 860 losing to Nigel Ryall 2,220. Steve Mariner 2,120 edged out Graham LeMonnier 1,260.

 

            The next two legs saw Mark Turner 2,390 against Alan LeBlond 1,570 and Tony Walsh 7,350 over Peter Noel 2,510 put the home side in front.

 

            13,370 from John Burrows gave England the perfect start in beating Mike Mathews 980 and with Jim Millward 7,930 beating Graham Marett 1,470 England  moved into a strong position.

 

            Paul Sainsbury 2,660 narrow victory over Graham Bisson 1,350 kept the home side in front and with Mark James 8,740 against Steve Ahier 500 

 

England held a strong hand as they moved into the final set of games.

            England captain Kevin Tunstall 9,200 against Bob King 680 kept the home flag flying. Jersey’s Dennis Helleur 4,440 pulled a leg back against Bernie McCluskey 330 while Paul Fann 4,900 gave the visitors home in beating Pete Farrelly 2,290. So at the interval England held an 8 leg to 3 lead.

 

            Hampshires Paul Wing was back to form with 3,730 getting the home side up and running against Nigel Ryall 450. P.Wing 4,590 N.Ryall 2,670. Eng. 2 pts. Jer. 1.

 

            A low scoring game saw Graham LeMonnier 1,810 beating Sussex’s Steve Mariner 1,720. Aggregate was S.Mariner 3,840 G.LeMonnier 3,070. Eng. 2 pts. Jer. 1.     

       

Mark Turner Oxfordshire 3,320 again kept Alan LeBlond 2,270 at bay as he won with 5,710 to 3,840 Englands first 3 nil victory.

            Berkshires Tony Walsh 3,790 was second best to Peter Noel 5,350 in the second leg but edged out the Jersey veteran on aggregate T.Walsh 11,140 P.Noel 7,860. Eng. 2 pts. Jer. 1.

 

            Buckinghamshires John Burrows 8,800 was in unstoppable form in beating Mike Mathews again the home sides second maximum points score 3 nil. J.Burrows 22,170 M.Mathews 3,680.

 

            Sussex World Champion Jim Millward a title he won in Jersey last year was in electric form with 13,350 as he over powered Graham Marett 100. J.Millward 21,280 G.Marett 1,570. Eng. 3 pts. Jer. 0.

 

            A first victory for the visitors from Jersey as Graham Bisson 5,060 won his second leg against Berkshires Paul Sainsbury 2,520 aggregates scores P.Sainsbury 5,180 G.Bisson 6,410 Eng. 1 pt. Jer. 2Pts.

 

            Sussex’s Mark James 780 played second fiddle to Steve Ahier 2,190 in the second leg but another aggregate victory for the home side. M.James 9,520 S.Ahier 2,690 Eng. 2 pts. Jer. 1 Pt.

 

            Oxfordshires England Captain Kevin Tunstall 7,210 was again to good for Bob King 1,590 on the night. K.Tunstall 16,410 B.King 2,270 Eng. 3 Jer. 0.

 

            Dennis Helleur 4,490 once again got the better of Berkshires Bernie McCluskey 530 and picked up the visitors only 3 nil victory. B.McCluskey 860 D.Helleur 8,930.

 

            The final game saw Oxfordshires Peter Farrelly 4,780 win the second leg against Paul Fann 2,420 but the Jersey man edged home on aggregate. P. Farrelly 7,070 to P.Fann 7,370 Eng. 1 pt. Jer. 2.
